Some people don't need advice or a plan. They need someone to hear them out. Give a few hours a week and be that person, from wherever you are.

How it works

What listening looks like.

You choose your hours. During a shift, keep your listener desk open. When someone asks to talk, you get an alert (and an email, if you want one) and can accept.

Text chat, in your browser

Private one-to-one chat. They see your first name only. Phone calls may come later.

A peer, not a professional

No diagnosing or advice. You listen, reflect, and share 988 when someone is at risk. Our guide walks you through it.

We review every application

Create your account and tell us why you want to listen. We read every application ourselves; once you're approved, your listener desk unlocks.

Who can apply

Anyone 18 or older. Everyone is welcome here, as a listener and as someone reaching out.
